It’s getting to that time of year when we start planning next year’s getaways. I don’t think I’m alone in looking forward to exploring even more of the UK and Ireland in 2023. I could say that it’s the cost of fuel that’s driving a desire to keep our getaways closer to home, but I’d be lying. I want to explore more of these islands for the simple, undeniable truth that they are so beautiful. ED Michael Stevenson (Nov 2022, p15) asked if minimum stays could be an option for some sites, referring to the popularity of Tewkesbury Club site as an en route stopover. Here are some readers’ responses… I’ve stayed twice at Tewkesbury campsite for the very reason that Michael says. I’ve contributed to the town’s economy. I see no benefit on imposing a three-day stay; plus, why should anybody tell me how long I should stay? Surely a motorhome is for touring, not sat around for three days because the members don’t book early enough. I feel compelled to write a reply to Phillip Fisher after reading, Is banning Kids Ok? (Nov 22, p20). I chose to go to adult-only sites some of the time, not because I have anything against children, I love to see them out playing and don’t have a problem with the noise they make, but do I need to pay for facilities that I'm not going to use, ie a play park or swimming pool, or even childrens entertainment. The answer is no. It’s the same with dogs, if you don’t have one, you can chose if you want to go to a site that is dog-friendly. Not so much discrimination, but more like freedom of choice.
