Think Santa’s in charge of Christmas? Nope, it’s us mums. Whether it’s mince pies or memories we’re busy making, we’re the ones running this festive show to ensure it’s as special as special can be. And you’ll find loads of clever ideas to sprinkle a little extra magic in your home on page 47. We’ve got the essentials covered, too, from Christmas-dinner recipes your tot will eat (page 102), to the best treats to pack into his Christmas-Eve box (page 40). But the advice I found most helpful in this issue was how to have a perfectly imperfect Christmas (page 88). I always put myself under a ridiculous amount of pressure to juggle everything for everybody in the family on the big day, and I generally end up exhausted on…

Make memories Think your tot is too young to remember Christmas? Think again! Research has found that the best way to make long-term memories with your tot is to create something that you can share together in the future. So think about what family keepsakes you could create this year, that you could share next Christmas, and every Noël after that! Perhaps you could frame a photo of the family in front of the tree, and repeat the tradition each year until you have row of portraits standing on the mantelpiece. Or start a festive family journal and fill a few pages each year, to look back through before adding to every Christmas to come. Here at M&B HQ, we’ve been getting pretty tired of seeing all those too-good-to-be-true family photos on social, so we thought we’d gather all of us real mums together, and do something about it! #mumtribe is where real mums like you and us get together to share what life is really like as a mum. Every day,#mumtribe invites mums to share a photo of a parenting moment. It might be a teeny-tiny thing that makes you smile – like your baby’s cute yawn. It might be a mini mum-win – like that little bit of carpet you can still see beneath all the scattered toys. It might be perfectly normal stuff – like a fading stretchmark. Or it could be one of those blow-your-mind moments like the look your tot gives…

m & b’s fave mum! giovanna fletcher

At the start of November, Tom wanted to put a Christmas tree up in his office. He claimed it was for ‘work purposes’ as he’s currently writing something festive (top secret and I’m not allowed to reveal what it is yet). So off we went on a family trip to buy Tom’s tree. I’d love to say it was a beautiful moment but, in actuality, Buddy was in full-swing toddler mode, so it was more of a grab, pay and run job. He wanted to touch everything and couldn’t quite grasp that the fancy glass baubles weren’t for throwing. So it wasn’t the most serene start to the Christmas fun that you might see in the movies! But when we got the tree home, Tom and I watched Buzz and Buddy…

you did a great job, dad!

My daughter Millicent was born two weeks early by elective caesarean, weighing in at 9.5lbs. I actually think the experience was harder for my husband, as I was taken to theatre for a second operation while he was left looking after a newborn baby for the first three hours of her life. Millicent is now six months old and such a happy baby, who is always smiling. JADE COOK, WILTSHIRE Jade wins the Discovery Max Stroller from Ickle Bubba, worth £159.
