use only that which works

Bodybuilders of today are larger than life. If you want to feel like you have never lifted a weight in your life, go stand next to one of them. Yours truly with super heavyweight Dewald Barendse. In the world of bodybuilding there are countless examples of freaks who defy logic. Take Ronnie Coleman as the perfect example. I believe no one in history delivered more muscle lines with more authority than the former policeman from Arlington, Texas. Ronnie manhandled weights that could have blown out his knees and reduced his Mr. Olympia ambitions to zero, but he dominated the line-ups for years with his style of training, which can best be described as relentless. Sure, Big Ron is now paying the price with consecutive back surgeries, but…

adapt or die

It’s been an interesting year so far. Some big competitions took place and our local bodybuilding and fitness talent continues to push further and harder. The split between the IFBB Pro League and the IFBB Amateur League resulted in the establishment of the IFBB Elite Pro series. In one respect this has been positive, giving athletes an opportunity to turn Pro under the IFBB Elite banner. However, many promising athletes who are destined for the IFBB Pro League have chosen to stay away from recent big competitions in the hope that a year off will help them improve in 2019. generation iron 3 coming soon

Generation Iron 3 is currently being filmed around the world and is expected to be released in October. Much like its predecessors, Generation Iron 1 and 2, the third documentary will give another insider perspective on the bodybuilding and fitness industry. The director of the Generation Iron trilogy, Vlad Yudin, described the original as “the re-introduction of professional bodybuilding to the masses”, in a similar way as the classic bodybuilding documentary Pumping Iron did in the 1970s. The second Generation Iron focused “on the progression and expansion of the fitness industry”. The upcoming Generation Iron 3 will be “a journey through the world of bodybuilding in search of the perfect physique”. The film is also set to have much more of an international storyline, featuring different countries and…

alethea earns her pro card

Body Fitness athlete Alethea Borman was awarded her Elite Pro Card after a top podium finish at the Arnold Classic Africa, which was recently hosted in Johannesburg by the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness. With the newly acquired professional status, the Swakopmund-based legal adviser has realised a lifelong dream of becoming the first bodybuilder in the IFBB Elite Pro ranks who represents Namibia. “I’ve been involved with bodybuilding since the age of 14. So that’s about 25 years of nothing but love,” says the mother of three children. According to Alethea, success in the sport comes down to the sheer determination, consistency and sacrifice of any athlete who is looking to step on stage. As part of her prep for the Arnold this year Alethea trained with…
