learn from the best

You know what the best part of this job is? I know that the nine times out of 10 the person reading this letter loves training, wants to build muscle and wants as much bodybuilding information and motivation as possible. When this edition hits the shelves I will have been at Maverick Publishing Corporation for a year. And in that year I have had at my fingertips heaps and heaps of information related to success in bodybuilding and the science of building muscle. Before I was in this position I spent my free time reading Muscle Evolution and researching the Internet to try and find quotes from the pros and leading athletes. Now I put together Muscle Evolution and I get the quotes from the pros and leading athletes. It is my…

live positively

This issue marks the official 11 year anniversary since our first magazine, 67 issues ago, in 2003. If I look back I’m really quite proud of where we’ve come as a sport and as an industry. I can safely say that there are more opportunities now in SA than ever before with respect to the federations available and the platforms that athletes have to promote themselves. More of SA’s best are now, more than ever before, heading overseas to compete around the world, and South Africa is making a big impression on the international stage. Bodybuilding is, and always will be, in our blood. It’s what we do, what we live for and what gives us purpose on a day to day basis, outside of the other important elements in our…

CRAMP FRUSTRATION Q I’m getting a bit frustrated now. I’ve been training with weights for many years and am at the point where I would like to compete in my first show next year. The problem is that since I changed my programme to work on the finer details of my physique I’ve suffered from severe cramping. For example, when I do drop sets or pyramid training I experience serious, uncontrollable muscle cramps that are excruciatingly painful. My diet and supplementation is good, which means I take all the important minerals and vitamins like magnesium to help prevent cramping. I also drink a lot of water, but I still struggle with these cramps. I cramp mainly in my chest, biceps, triceps, hamstrings and forearms, and between my ribs. Could you please…
