In most small businesses, employees using mobile apps for work will be doing so on their own devices. This raises the issue of how you protect sensitive company data. Android, iOS and Windows all provide a means for managing business data on employees’ devices, but management software is needed. For devices running version 5 of Android (Lollipop), Google recently introduced work profiles. It creates a dedicated profile for business-related apps, email and browsing, which is encrypted and can be remotely wiped by the IT department, leaving the employee’s personal data intact. Google has also released an Android for Work app for phones and tablets running earlier versions of the OS. A €6 BILLION fine – that’s what Google faces if found guilty by the European Commission (EC), after antitrust charges were filed against the search giant for allegedly abusing its dominant market position. Following a five-year inquiry, the EC sent Google a Statement of Objections outlining its case against the US tech giant, with EU competition commissioner Margret he Vestager saying she was “concerned that the company has given an unfair advantage to its own comparison-shopping service.” She also announced a separate investigation into Android, citing complaints over the way Google bundles services and holds back the development of alternative versions of the mobile OS. “The European Commission is asking Google to display rivals’ results in the same way it shows its own” Google has denied the charges and said it looks forward…
