brendon urie

Your last album had a Frank Sinatra vibe. What was your inspiration this time? When I was a kid, I would make a cardboard cutout of a guitar and act like a rock star in front of a mirror. I’m reflecting on those memories. So, what advice would you give your younger self? You know what you want and who you are: Don’t second-guess it, man! You starred in Kinky Boots last year. What did you learn on Broadway? It absolutely influenced my writing and the recording. And vocally I was able to do a lot of weird stuff I never thought I could accomplish. How did you spend your last day off? I woke up and made breakfast for my wife [Sarah], then we just stayed home all day and binged The Office on Netflix.…

loving america

Every year we look forward to putting together this issue, taking a moment around July 4 to celebrate 100 Reasons to Love America. Despite our differences, we can all agree that Popeyes’ fried chicken is amazing! But this year, even as we celebrate what’s great about America, we are also grappling with the nightmare unfolding at our nation’s border, where children are being separated from their parents, the result of the Trump administration’s immigration policy. It’s a heartbreaking and infuriating situation, but the abundant protests across the political spectrum—Laura Bush has condemned the policy as “immoral”—remind us that compassion remains a core American value and that our nation’s strength lies in our sacred right to speak out and fight against injustice.…

THE QUEEN IS ALL SMILES WITH MEGHAN Chester, England, June 14 Meghan Markle (in custom Givenchy) bonded with Queen Elizabeth during her first royal outing without Prince Harry. The new Duchess of Sussex “was really calm, considering it was her first official engagement with the boss!” says Andrew Curphey, whose theater company brought together local schoolkids for a performance. MEGHAN’S DAD SPEAKS OUT One month after Thomas Markle missed his daughter’s royal wedding, he appeared on Good Morning Britain to address the photos he staged for the paparazzi before the nuptials. “I was looking to change my image, and obviously that was a mistake that went wrong,” he said on June 18. “I spoke to them both and I apologized. . . . Both Harry and Meghan were very forgiving.” FATHER’S DAY JOY! CHART-TOPPING TRIO New York…

angelina jolie & brad pitt   custody battle explodes

ON FATHER’S DAY BRAD PITT RECEIVED the gift he’s been craving most of all—more time with his kids. The actor, 54, spent the day in London with several of his and estranged wife Angelina Jolie’s six children after a judge ruled that Pitt needed the chance to mend his relationship with them. The judge set specific visitation and phone guidelines for Pax, 14, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, and 9-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox to spend time with Pitt over the summer while their mom, Jolie, 43, films Maleficent 2 in London. (Maddox, 16, is free to decide how much time he spends with each parent because of his age.) “Brad must be ecstatic that he finally gets to spend more time with his kids,” a source says. “It’s been obvious…

more than friends?

He’s been traveling the world promoting his movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but on June 17 Chris Pratt made time to have a quiet picnic lunch with Katherine Schwarzenegger—Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver’s oldest child—in Santa Barbara on Father’s Day. Pratt, 39, and author-blogger Schwarzenegger, 28, who both belong to the Hillsong Church in L.A. (where Pratt had attended services earlier in the day), shared sandwiches and laughs during Pratt’s first Father’s Day since he split last August with wife Anna Faris, with whom he shares custody of son Jack, 5. Reps for Pratt and Schwarzenegger haven’t commented on the nature of their relationship. GEORGE PIMENTEL/WIREIMAGE; W8MEDIA/MEGA; ANDREW MCCONNELL/EPA; WAGO-CPR-EVGA/BACKGRID…
