What do you love about the movie? It’s just a unique coming-of-age story. I play a woman who had a teenage pregnancy and didn’t really emotionally evolve beyond that. It affects her mothering capabilities. Why did you want to portray her? She’s so vulnerable and some might even say flawed. It was just unlike anything I’ve ever done. How do you spend your downtime? My husband [Peter White] and I love to go hiking as a family. But we’re just as happy hanging out in the backyard. I love to cook and bake with my kids [Willow, 9, and Tommy, 4]. It’s just about cherishing that quality time. And when you have some me time? Whatever I have time for! I always say I’m going to do more yoga, but I really love going for a jog;…

oscar victory

As the Oscars were handed out on March 4, one of the most memorable awards seasons in history came to a close. In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, and in the midst of a highly charged political atmosphere, this year’s red carpets became protests against gender discrimination and rallies for inclusion and compassion. The Time’s Up movement launched in January with stars wearing black to the Golden Globes; two months later $21 million has been raised for the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund for victims of sexual harassment, more than 1,600 people from various industries have reached out for assistance, and the National Women’s Law Center has started matching them with attorneys and public-relations professionals. This year’s Oscar winners seemed to reflect the voters’ activism and the Academy…

honoring team u.s.a.

Even if they didn’t win a medal, the athletes of the U.S. Olympic Team didn’t leave PyeongChang without at least a little bling. For the 10th Olympics in a row, O.C. Tanner—a Salt Lake City-based firm that teaches companies how to reward and retain great employees—gave custom-made rings to each of Team U.S.A.’s athletes as well as support crew. “Whether they make it to the podium or not,” says Sandra Christensen, vice president of award design and development, “these athletes are worthy of being appreciated and honored for their greatness.” That kind of generosity helped put O.C. Tanner on People’s first annual Companies That Care list (People, April 10, 2017), celebrating firms that do well by doing good. The 2018 list, produced by People and the research firm Great Place…
