on with the show!

Welcome to the first Performance Vauxhall of 2019. This year promises to be a belter for Griffin fans thanks to exciting model anniversaries and the highest number of Vauxhall-themed shows in recent memory. The VXR brand lays claim to arguably the most significant birthday of the bunch due to those three emotive letters getting ready to celebrate their fifteenth trip around the sun. It’s amazing to think the Astra H VXR was unveiled as part of the enduring brand’s launch in 2004, such is the continued popularity of the model. There was, however, a time before Z20LEH engines, as highlighted by what will undoubtedly be a year of celebration for Calibra owners keen to promote the fact the cool coupe turns thirty this summer.2019 also marks thirty years since John Cleland…

trojan force

Bathed in a blue glow, a raft of LEDs ooze out into the dark. They slash against thick, red boomerangs, the two colours pooling together in an ocean of white. Before you see the shape or make out the details, it’s all about the lights. Your eyes pop and the scene adjusts. It’s a tableau of bluff edges and sharp lines, each finished in stark monochrome. Get up close, though, and the mechanical componentry fizzles with polished metal and acid green detailing, hauling attention to the muchmodded main attraction. We could be gawping at a highend gaming PC, a modern monument to performance and its ultimate pursuit. We’re not. Instead, it’s Jordan Hart’s Astra VXR Nürburgring Edition that has us staring. With 452bhp and 370lb/ft torque on tap, this fantastic Vauxhall…

in brief

*FOUR STARExactly twenty-five years after the launch of the Corsa B, Vauxhall has recreated its famous 1993 ‘supermodels’ television advert – starring Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell – with an updated version featuring “four bold, British icons”, including Anais Gallagher, daughter of Oasis star, Noel. The new ad contains several nods back to the original, including a period-perfect 1993 Flame Red Corsa (which we sourced!) alongside the latest generation GSi. Have a watch at bit.ly/corsa25*ON THE UPWhile it’s no secret Vauxhall is keeping schtum about plans for its VXR range, positive noises are being made by the company with reference to its coffers. Now turning a healthy profit, the brand is benefitting hugely from the popularity of the new Insignia, which is giving the Astra K a run for its…
