that’s show business!

No prizes for guessing what we’re focusing on in this bumper issue of Performance Vauxhall! As I write this introductory piece, I’m wondering what recently built Vauxhalls, Opels, Holdens and Bedfords (shout out to the Rascal owners) will be on display when PVS kicks off at Santa Pod Raceway on Sunday 24th June. There should also be plenty of action to witness the day before, when the Vauxhallonly Run What Ya Brung session comes into force shortly before the night’s entertainment (laid on for the benefit of those of you with weekend camping tickets). We’ve decided to use this jam-packed edition of the magazine to highlight some of the cars, special display stands and features you can expect to see at the show. Turn to page 55 for everything you need…

ring of fortune

Modifying cars is great fun, but with today’s tuning tech making seriously big bhp possible from Vauxhall’s line of turbocharged two-litre engines, the chance of mechanical failure as a consequence of pushing a C20LET, Z20LET, Z20LEH or even an A20NFT to its limit is high. And when things go wrong, they tend to go badly wrong. Just ask Ethan Eaton, the owner of Astra VXR Nürburgring Edition #348. “I was driving flat-out along my local bypass when the car’s engine decided to dump its oil,” he sighs. The loss of a Vauxhall’s lifeblood is bad no matter when it occurs, but as if to add insult to injury, Ethan’s ‘Burg decided to give up the ghost a short while after being on the receiving end of a fresh engine build. “I…

facebook.com/PerformanceVauxhallMag @PerformanceVaux NEW CORSA GSi ENGINE ANNOUNCED 1.4-LITRE TURBO JOINS SIX-SPEED TRANSMISSION After we revealed photos of the new Corsa GSi in our last issue, we can now confirm powertrain and performance stats ahead of the first examples arriving in dealer showrooms this autumn. Built on the most recent Corsa VXR chassis, the new GSi is powered by a punchy 1.4-litre turbocharged engine with 148bhp and 220Nm of torque. The 0-62mph dash takes 8.9 seconds, with strong poke through to a maximum speed of 128mph in factory specification. An ample 220Nm torque allied to a short-ratio six-speed gearbox also helps the GSi – more of a comfortably warm hatch than a hot one – to accelerate from 50-70mph in fifth gear in just 9.9 seconds. The GSi’s chassis offers all the grip and poise you’d expect…

product spotlight

EVANS WATERLESS COOLANT Evans Waterless Coolant represents a major step forward in engine cooling technology. The product offers a boiling point above 180°, which effectively eliminates overheating. Low vapour pressure eradicates the danger of scalding and encourages reduced strain on your Vauxhall’s engine components. Water contains oxygen and acts as an electrolyte, which leads to corrosion. Evans claims its product eradicates this source of engine damage at the same as reinstating bhp lost through poor combustion because of underperforming traditional coolants. Furthermore, Evans Waterless Coolant is proven to reduce liner pitting by a massive seventy-five percent when compared with the effects of water-based coolants. Impurities and hardness salts that lead to scaling and poor heat transfer are also dismissed by this fantastic fluid, which is non-toxic (standard antifreeze is highly toxic, presenting a…
