Where are you hoping to go in your caravan this year? My plan – as it was last year – is to visit France’s stunning Alsace region if I’m lucky enough to get the opportunity. Star letter I am wondering if touring, for those of us used to enjoying middle-to-top spec four-berths, will become unfeasible once the Government implements its ‘clean vehicle’ policy after 2025. I recently watched the episode of Top Gear that, albeit with tongue in cheek, tested three electric cars, towing small vans with electric SUVs costing £50,000 to £90,000 over a range of activities. They all failed the final test, towing over 100 miles. So is the Government ignoring the benefits of this recreation for thousands, not only us, but those who rely on it for their livelihood? Without ‘clean’ cars that have the towing performance of current vehicles and are affordable, this sector will face a significant reduction, only attracting tent or teardrop caravan users.
