welcome to the workhop

Never before have I seen so many happy faces at an end of show prize giving. Handing out the gongs at Hagerty’s Festival of the Unexceptional was a simple joy. Partly because it was an amazing celebration of ‘our’ kind of classics, and partly because after so long apart, away from our mates and the ability to celebrate our shared petrolheadedness, being back carried with it an almost religious ecstasy. So, we laughed, we cheered, and we shed a quiet tear. Oh, and the Proton 1.5GL Black Knight owned by John Coupland won the Car of The Show award (the crowd went mad!). After all, this is a social hobby, as well as a singular pursuit. Yes, I love escaping from the rest of the world in my shed – social…

busiest summer of shows ever!

All you need to know about everything important ‘We can’t wait to get out and enjoy yet more events this summer!’ The UK has experienced the sound of engines firing up and heading out to car shows for the first time since the recent national lockdown ended. With the curse of COVID-19 gradually beginning to ease, venues across the nation have been bustling with classics, many seeing record numbers returning to events in the last month alone. Celebrating its 30th year, the recent Silverstone Classic saw its best-ever ticket sales, with thousands of fans flooding through the gates to watch 21 retro races and 900 entries battle it out on track. In a slower, but no less spectacular display, the Triumph Stag’s delayed 50th birthday gathering took place at Silverstone, with more than 450 of…

The Triumph and MG Show in Malvern attracted thousands of fans who celebrated the birthdays of the TR4, Herald 1200, Acclaim, Midget and MG Z-cars. The Silverstone Classic’s 30th year attracted record crowds and wasn’t just for the priceless racers. It included a section specifically for ‘everyday heroes.’ Organised by the Saab Owners’ Club, this year’s Saabfest was held at Prescott and attracted hundreds of the Swedish cars. It included a hillclimb parade. 375 Stags held a track parade at the Silverstone Classic for a delayed 50th birthday party, led by PC editor Hopkins, driving the BMM’s last Stag ever built. There was a record turn-out at the Citroën Car Club rally, where owners of the few remaining UK examples of the Ami gathered to celebrate its 60th birthday.…

starting handle

What an incredible summer. It’s as if we have all breathed out at the same time. After so long restricted, the lifting of lockdown has been a huge relief and a cause for great celebration – every show I have been to has been absolutely rammed. We haven’t stopped and will be on our front foot again in early September when we get back on the road for our epic round-Britain road trip. We’ll start at the Beaulieu Autojumble on September 4-5, where our two-year VW Type 2 restoration project will be on view for the very first time in Green Field. I can’t wait to be able to say hello to you all again. The Beaulieu International Autojumble will be the first show this year at which the mag will…

camper round the coast is go!

You nominated, then you voted and now we can reveal the five winning beaches selected by you for the Practical Classics and Lancaster Insurance teams to visit on our marathon Camper Round the Coast adventure. The winners, and the dates on which we will visit them, are on the right of this page. The next part is the exciting bit. We want you to meet us at each of the winning beaches so you can celebrate with us and raise a few quid for Prostate Cancer UK. With the VW Camper van almost done in the Practical Classics workshop, it is time to set the route. On each day we aim to arrive at the beach location at around 6pm with a road run included in the day’s proceedings. Keep an…
