Another month, another show. For me, Cereals Event had fallen down the show pecking order in recent years, so I wasn’t expecting much. Wrong. As it turns out, I was struck by the real buzz around the field in Cambridgeshire, and that wasn't just from the swooping Spitfires from nearby Duxford Aerodrome. Little tip: if you're ever in the area, the air museum is well worth a look. And, no, palms haven't been greased for the plug. Anyway, back to Cereals. It seemed to be smiles all round this year, and there was a surprising amount of kit on display to give punters something to mull over. In addition to the current 635mm and 735mm wide rubber belts, there is a new 457mm option for the Axion TerraTrac 930 (355hp) and 960 (445hp) making it suitable for row crop work, such as spreading fertiliser or working with mechanical hoes. The company says that the new narrower tracks are ideal for further reducing soil damage and compaction on fields and grassland, and active belt control when steering means there is no surface damage when turning tight. Although not available in the UK and Ireland, all three track widths can now also be supplied with a 3.0m track centre setting in selected markets, such as Australia, for CTF applications. Designed for high-speed primary tillage and seedbed preparation, the hydraulically rotating disc axles on the Carrier XT, the newest member in the Carrier cultivator family, help to increase the disc angle for improved penetration. Väderstad says that this allows a full cut-out at a shallower working depth or reduced soil flow at deeper working depths to reduce fuel consumption. The three models: 4.25m, 5.25m and 6.25m, are available as trailed or mounted versions. Disc options include the standard 450mm version. Alternatively, 470mm TrueCut or CrossCutter discs are available as are a range of both single and double packer options. The Carrier XT will be available to order from the autumn.…

The rounded front wall extension between the rigid front bulk head and filler hood on the latest Royal forage wagons is designed to improve the crop flow into the cargo space. Attached to the new front extension via several hinge points, the rotor feeds cut material upwards along the bulkhead into the cargo space. At the rear, the redesigned filler hood is now spring-loaded and suspended on rubber discs. The German manufacturer says that this helps to reduce operating noise. Other updates include the new straight tailgate with automatic locking and release. The new front knife roller option for Amazone’s Cirrus 6003-2 folding trailed cultivator drill provides additional crumbling on cloddy soils and intensive shredding of surface crop residues. Also claimed to reduce the number of passes and result in even crop emergence, the central enclosed roller core with its chevron knife chops cover crops and tall stubbles at right angles to the direction of travel. On maize stubbles, it is said to save an additional run with a mulcher, roller or disc harrow. The roller bearing mounts and knives are made from Boron steel, and the chevron blade arrangement is said to prevent lateral pull. NEW WELSH DEALER FOR BOBCAT A&M Group is now responsible for sales and service for the entire Bobcat range of loaders, mini-excavators, telehandlers, light compaction and attachments in south, west and mid Wales. Newport-based Border Bobcat, the previous dealer for the area, is now specialising in the Bobcat skid-steer, compact track, compact wheel and small articulated loader ranges for the counties of Powys and Gwent. The A&M Group has purchased two plots on the Brackla Industrial Estate in Bridgend, one of which will form the location for the company’s new headquarters. The new facilities in Bridgend complement the existing operations in St Clears in Carmarthenshire, from where A&M Group serves the west of Wales.
