November is here and the big show season is upon us, with the French SIMA, Italian EIMA, German EuroTier and then the Danish Agromek event all falling within a couple of weeks of each other. And closer to home there’s the Midlands Machinery Show. Exciting times. Yet attending all of these events is not as glamourous as you may think; anyone who has had the joy of travelling through Paris’s Charles de Gaulle airport will need no further evidence. More specifically, how is it that the French, a people renowned around the world for their magnifique cuisine, can produce such a woeful offering of pre-flight sustenance? VIEW (Vision-based Intelligent Electronic Warnings) is the name of a camera-based system for Valtra tractors that automatically detects other road users when approaching a junction with front-mounted implements such as hoppers or mowers. The system displays three views showing the left, right, and rear camera perspectives, automatically switching to the rear camera when the tractor reverses. Images from the two front cameras are automatically displayed when the indicator is activated. The system uses ISObus information and machine learning algorithms to identify hazards and notify the driver. Camera views and acoustic notifications can be changed on the move. The factory-fitted option is installed in the Unlimited studio at the Suolahti tractor plant in Finland.…

The GST bale chaser trailer developed by Danish company Gammelskov Service Teknik collects 20 large square bales (1.2m x 1.2m x 2.5m). It can also be used to shift 30 (70-90cm x 1.2m) or 45 (80cm x 90cm) bales. All are collected from the side by the fully automatic self-loading arm. Clamped from the top, every time a bale is hoisted onto the platform, the computer automatically counts it and places it in the correct position at the front of the trailer. Bales are automatically shunted backwards by a pusher plate. When fully loaded, the loading crane returns to the transport position and four hydraulically operated steel bars each side are raised to support the sides of the bales during transport. Initially available on Vervaet’s six-wheel Beet Eater 625, the rollerbed primary-cleaning option is now also available on the four-wheel Q-616. Replacing the two front turbines, the rollerbed is not intended as a replacement for the turbine-only setup, but offers another option for potential customers already operating a rollerbed harvester in suitable soils and conditions. Rotating walking shares lift the beet onto the rollerbed’s seven full-width 100mm diameter rollers, and for maximum cleaning, the roots are taken outwards before being gathered back to the centre of the table. Roller speed is variable from the cab, with the seventh roller operated independently. When fitted with a rollerbed the Q-616 still uses four turbines. But where maximum cleaning is not required, these can be slowed down and fitted with rail gates for gentle…

Ineos Grenadiers are now being driven off the assembly line and volume deliveries of the new vehicles to customers is expected to start early December. It all started in 2017, over a pint with friends in London’s Grenadier pub, where Ineos chairman and 4x4 enthusiast Sir Jim Ratcliffe identified a gap in the market for a stripped-back no-nonsense off-roader to fill the void left by the original Land Rover Defender. His idea to build a vehicle from the ground up developed quickly. Ineos Automotive was created and by February 2018, and a 200-strong team of engineers worked full-time on the new vehicle. After more than one million miles of testing, the company launched the production version of the new vehicle earlier this year. Supported via a 200-strong network of sales…

A cleaning roller inserted between the floor and elevator on the new Clean and Go bunker provides additional cleaning on AVR’s trailed Spirit 7200 two-row offset potato harvester. The Belgian manufacturer reckons that the 6.5t capacity bunker provides enough of a buffer to continue harvesting when there is a gap between trailers. Elevator speed is adjusted automatically based on the product flow to empty the bunker as efficiently as possible when unloading on the move, and the elevator’s three articulation points allows potatoes to be deposited deep inside the trailer.
