Three men were shot dead while two others were injured when they were ambushed on the N3, next to the Rand Airport bridge in the east of Joburg. The incident happened at about 9pm on Sunday and the motive for the attack is not yet known. The proliferation of slums along the Durban-Joburg rail network and theft of infrastructure are major stumbling blocks in the viability of the key freight corridor, and they pose a serious threat to the country’s economic growth. THE Western Cape High Court has dismissed an appeal by a Cape Town man and confirmed the sentence of life imprisonment imposed on him for “corrective” rape. Albro McLean, 45, initially pleaded not guilty in the Wynberg Regional Court in March 2019 to rape and assault with aggravating circumstances. But his DNA was found on the victim, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said yesterday. IKWEZI coal mine is planning to expand its operation to the Shepstone Lake and Chibini community of Dannhauser, Newcastle. This comes months after a protest in Mbabane and the surrounding communities which resulted in community members getting shot at, beaten and arrested by the police for protesting against the impact caused by the mine. The community of Dannhauser is following suit by refusing the expansion of the mine. Harry Kane is in Tottenham Hotspur’s squad for their Europa Conference League tie this week as Nuno Espirito Santo admits he cannot wait for the transfer window to close and end speculation over the striker’s future.
