Sarah Hyland has long been active on social media, sharing silly selfies alongside more personal posts about her long struggle with kidney disease. But behind the scenes the Modern Family star, 28, has been in far more pain than she’s let on. In an interview with Self magazine Hyland revealed that she underwent a second kidney transplant last year, five years after her first. When she learned in 2016 that the first kidney, donated by her father, had failed and that dialysis treatments weren’t working, “I was very depressed,” Hyland said.
