what makes great art?

One of the pleasures of editing this magazine is being invited on to judging panels. While selecting a handful of artworks from entries of different styles is a huge responsibility, it is also a pleasure. When else do you get the chance to put hours aside to study works, and ponder what makes them successful? what do you do with your old copies of a&i?

If, like me, you have been receiving Artists & Illustrators for some time and are loathe to throw copies away, you will have accumulated quite a pile. You could compile a range of binders by subject (for example, portraits, landscapes and so on) or medium (watercolour, acrylic and so on), or projects or tips. By doing this you will have an excellent and compact reference library making it easy to find what you are looking for to get you inspired or solve a problem.
