When Cliff Usher first saw this 1957 double door Panel Van at the Beetle Barn in 2006 it was in a very sorry state, having been rolled on the driver’s side leaving the front panel all smashed in and the B pillar twisted totally out of shape. Attracted by the comparative rarity of the double door option, cool period bus stuff like the round rear lights and separate brake light and a passion for a project, Cliff took it on, though as he was restoring a 21 window Samba he says, “for the first five years it sat on my drive and I just did bits of cleaning, refurbishing stuff and paint stripping.” A major hold up was due to not being able to find a donor B pillar, as…

custom crew cab

The crew cab’s story actually goes back to 2001 when French enthusiast Christophe Teodomante acquired a battered 1976 LHD crew cab which he set about customising. These custom modifications included fitting Early Bay rear tail lights and front and rear bumpers, removing the front grill and indicators, smoothing the engine lid, lowering the bus and tinting the windows. After being debuted at the Volksworld Show in 2002 the crew cab was sold to another owner and with his Hot Rod background and the help of Neil & Mandy Melliard of Prosign it was turned into what you see here. The base coat is black and the airbrushed flames running down the sides are finished in House of Colour Kandy Red with cream pinstriping round the edges of the flames making for a…

bus doctor

Email info@volkswagencamper.co.uk Address Bus Doctor, VW Camper & Commercial, The Old School Higher Kinnerton Chester CH4 9AJ Disc Brake Issues Dear Bus Doc, I finally got round to fitting the Empi wide 5 disc set up I had stored. Yes, I know, it’s Empi but I had it anyway for a bargain price and I needed to replace parts on the rear anyway. Also have a remote servo fitted and CSP discs on the front. All fitted up, eventually got the handbrake set up right (modified the cable) and bled it through and drove it back to my house. It was shocking. First pump no confidence, 2nd a little better. It had been sitting in the barn for about 6 months so I guessed it could just need running for a bit. Fitted a…

Email editor@volkswagencamper.co.uk Address Camper Mail, VW Camper & Commercial, The Old School Higher Kinnerton Chester CH4 9AJ A Bay Called Brian! Hi David and Dave Our Brian, a ‘72 crossover camper was on the ‘All Things Timber’ stall at Stanford Hall and appeared in the show report in the August issue. We’ve planned a 1641cc engine conversion in September which will give him a bit more grunt for the long journeys that we’ve been doing. Last year we all went down to Devon and up to Dunfirmline. He has an All Things Timber oak interior with Bromsgrove Auto Trimmers upholstery. Prior to this we spent a lot of evenings cutting and sticking to make the…
