www.volkswagencamper.co.uk Email editor@volkswagencamper.co.uk Address Editor, VW Camper & Commercial, Jazz Publishing The Old School Higher Kinnerton Chester CH4 9AJ After a seemingly endless, cold, wet winter the sun came out for Stanford Hall, temperatures broke Spring Bank Holiday records and it was finally time to really enjoy being out in the bus again. Other commitments meant we were unable to make the special (and sunny) Ben Pon Barndoor Bus Meet in Amersfoort later in the month, which broke the amazing record set four years ago and had 102 (yes you read that right) pre-55 buses on display together on the Saturday; three more turned up on Sunday, making an impressive 105 in total! Our own Andybugs did manage to get his bus there, (you can read about this in his column this month),…

fifteen up

Gone are the Samba’s neat rows of roof-lights, gone too the fold-back canvas sunroof, hence the moniker of 15-window Let’s have a chat about the 15-window’, says I. When the owner immediately launches into a series of ‘M’ codes you know you are dealing with a true enthusiast, an expert in the field. Ron Brown would laugh such accolades off, saying something to the effect that Vee Dubs are only his hobby and, of course, it’s true. But just look at that 15-window, once little more than a shell, and even Ron will have to agree; he’s not your average hobbyist. The 15-window arrived in England’s north-east just before Christmas 2015. Despatched with others of a similar ilk, it made its way from the USA to Felixstowe, where the container was unloaded…

Wee Campers’ Latest Creation Wee Campers, situated just outside Glasgow, has long held a reputation for innovative design and quality build, and their latest demonstrator (built to their own design) really is something special. Based on a LWB Tornado Red T5 (2010 model), the exterior features factory fitted sunroof, colour coded front and rear bumpers, spoiler and mirrors and 18” Matt black alloys but it is inside where things get really interesting. The solid hand carved oak worktop with integral draining board has an under-mounted copper sink and matching copper tall faucet that complement the cream finish to the cabinets. A push/popup wine cellar sits flush in the worktop as does as a pop-up 240v socket bank with USB and a push to open vertical drawer by the fridge is perfect…

VW Whitenoise 9th – 12th August Euston Park, nr. Thetford VW Whitenoise, established in 2002, was the very first VW Festival in the Eastern region with very much its own Festival style, way before the popular CarFest concept was born! Mixing quality music, diverse VW festival food that celebrates the best in street food, a relaxing parkland setting and VW Whitenoise’s impressive show n shine, the show is so popular that early bird tickets sold out in days! This year’s acts performing include The Neville Staple Band (from The Specials) and dance music favourites Shades of Rhythm headlining on the Lacons Main Stage and in the Big Top on Saturday and The Marley Experience and Killamonjambo on Sunday. Shown Shine Sunday attracts a wide range of VWs, with a mix of both air-cooled and…

the beach is where you park it

This beach themed custom Bay was built for export to the USA in March 1971. As well as the usual US spec, it carried the P30 code indicating it was to be a tin top Westfalia Campmobile and interestingly the M plate also reveals that it was finished in a Special Paint colour of AEG Red under White. Back in July 2015 it passed into the hands of Steve Pennington; he had just finished restoring and painting a 74 Bay but, liking front styling of the Early Bay (T2a) models, decided to sell the later model Bay (T2b) to buy this one, which also had the traditional upright type 1 engine he also preferred over the pancake type 4. The seller claimed to be the original owner, but nothing remained of the…
