This month’s Welcome image also brings two time zones together and shows how an old bus still sells modern stuff. The original uncropped German magazine advert, advertising the brand new Golf Sportsvan, shows the Honey Truck being followed by a very sleek looking new style Golf, which despite its name looks totally unlike a van! Whilst the signwriting on the Bay Honey Transport Pick Up truck is original, the hives and the flying bees demonstrate the skill of a photoshop artist! But whatever, I thought it a “sweet” picture!Lots more sweeties grace our pages this month. The Orange-mobile, a 1975…

Empi Shifter, chrome handbrake lever extension, chrome steering column, dash drinks holder with flower vase all add to the custom stylingThe first thing to strike you is the colour. Reminiscent of the Mango Green / Seagull Grey combo used by VW in the late fifties, the period pastels have been given a contemporary twist using Rover Old English White (code NNX) over Mercedes Caledonian Green (code DB867). 2nd European Barndoor Bus Gathering19 – 20 MayThe first European Barndoor Bus Meet was held in 2014 and set a new world record of seventy six pre 1955 buses all displayed together, along with hundreds of Splits on show, an impressive line-up of Beetles and coachbuilts, and thousands of visitors from 35 countries all over the world! Like Bad Camberg, Hessisch Oldendorf and Lavenham, this show is only held every four years and brings together an amazing array of vintage buses. It is held in Amersfoort, home to Ben Pon’s original VW dealership, in the (now disused) rail head yards and area where the trains laden with imported VWs were unloaded for distribution in the Netherlands. The 2014 meeting still ranks as one of the best shows I have attended…
