Auction fever
I’m always amazed by the things that stick in my memory. I’m reaching an age when I can’t remember why I went upstairs but I vividly recall a lesson in my last year of school. This would have been 1979, and instead of paying attention I was dreaming about scooters. The object of my desire was an Italian Lambretta GP200 and suddenly I realised that the scooter of my dreams had already been built. I didn’t know where it was, or in what condition, but it existed. At 15 I was already interested in ‘old bikes’. Like it or not, the majority of scooters we see at scooter rallies are ‘classic bikes,’ a fact that collectors have only recently woken up to.
