letter from the editor

One day, two and a half years ago, we were walking around the local magazine racks, just scratching our heads in disbelief. We wondered what in the hell had happened to all the real men’s interest rags? Somehow, the publishing world had gone down a never-ending path of political correctness and social-justice agendas, and, unfortunately, the consumers were the ones who were suffering. Seriously, it seemed that we had gone from “F#*k yeah, America!” to “F#*k you, America!” in just a matter of a few short years. And as the major media continued to restrict their ideas about what was “acceptable” speech (read: censorship), it was getting to the point that it seemed taboo even to laugh and have a good time. This is why we decided to create Skillset. Like…

MEXICAN TOUGH MUDDER In the Mexican town of Parque EcoAlberto, tourists get the opportunity to experience a simulated illegal border crossing. That’s right! For just a few pesos, your coyote-like guide will run you through underground tunnels, night hike you through rugged countryside and even get you chased by fake border patrol! The program is actually used by the local indigenous tribe to teach the lesson that border crossings are very hazardous and bad for the local community. Are Pigs Smarter Than Our Kids? If your kids are three years old or younger, the answer may be yes. If they are teenagers, the answer may still be yes. Considered to be smarter than most dogs, pigs are in fifth place when it comes to the world’s most intelligent animals. Pet pigs will listen…

google that sh*t

Cannibalism is not technically illegal anywhere in the U.S. except Idaho. Marsupials—which include kangaroos, wombats, and koalas—have three vaginas. Pigeons, aka “sky rats,” can go from zero to 60 mph in less than two seconds and can fly for hours, covering hundreds of miles, using the Earth’s magnetic field for navigation. A single strand of spider web silk the length of the circumference of the earth would fit in a five-gallon bucket. Vladimir Putin is an eighth-dan black belt, granted to him by the International Judo Federation in 2012. President Teddy Roosevelt received a Medal of Honor posthumously for his involvement at San Juan Hill, but his son “Ted” Roosevelt III led the first-wave attack on D-Day at Utah beach—at age 56—and subsequently received the Medal of Honor as well. By the time he died in…

un-happy little trees

First off, who doesn’t love Bob Ross? In a world of anger, hate and scumbag politics, his TV shows are a beacon of chill for those who are suffering from high blood pressure and Trump Derangement Syndrome. Bob’s iconic perm-fro (which he actually hated, but he was so broke he couldn’t afford proper haircuts) became his calling card, along with his soothing one-liners and mesmerizing voice. One thing is for certain—Mr. Ross never effed up a painting. Nope, they were all just “happy accidents.” Screw up that tree trunk? No problem, he would just make it a rock. Sneeze all over the canvas? Easy day … he would just add some snow and call it a magical winter wonderland. Damn, this guy was good. Ben and I have collectively watched over 100…

5 quick facts about “bust ’em up bobby”

▪ He spent over 20 years in the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of master sergeant. Despite his calm demeanor, rumor has it he was a total hard-ass in the service, earning him the nickname “Bust ’Em Up Bobby.” ▪ Bob actually painted his pictures three times—one prior to taping to be used as an off-screen guide, one during the taping of the show and one after the program to be photographed for his portfolio. ▪ Personal lessons from Bob Ross would cost you $375 an hour. ▪ Bob was missing a finger. We were hoping we would find out it was bitten off in a bar fight, but the unfortunate truth is that he lost it in a woodworking accident. ▪ He would film an entire thirteen-episode season in two…
