Calling all chionophiles! WINTER IS COMING. The bleak midwinter. The winter of our discontent. In common parlance, the cold season is rarely talked about in positive terms. Winter and its lieutenants – ice, snow, cold, frost, wind – are usually used as ominous metaphors. No one wants to be snowed under, get left out in the cold, skate on thin ice, or be met with a frosty reception. Most people, it’s fair to say, don’t look forward to winter (particularly, it must be said, those millions who are going to be enduring freezing homes in the months ahead).
