One of the joys of making a quilt is in the intricacy of the cutting and piecing. It’s so satisfying to watch a quilt top come together as the pile of fabric pieces disappears, and the design begins to emerge before our eyes. The projects in this issue will give you just that thrill, as well as leaving admirers in no doubt as to your piecing skills! This issue’s cover quilt features the iconic schoolhouse block, which never fails to impress with the 3D effect achieved with clever cutting. Bargello quilts stand out by literally making waves; test the waters with Linda Clements’ contemporary version. Our classic stepping stones design is pleasingly bold with a deep, rich colour palette, while in another project, supersized stars will showcase your most treasured…

THE QUILT BRIMFIELD AWAKENING After discovering a solitary block in a musty bag of vintage textiles at the Brimfield Antiques show in Massachusetts last year, friends Kim Martucci and Nisha Bouri were inspired to resurrect it as an EPP pattern to share with other lovers of hand-stitching around the globe. Made from four shapes and using customisable perforated paper pieces, hundreds of beautiful varieties have already popped up on Instagram with the hashtags #BrimfieldBlock and #BrimfieldAwakening. THE SHOP MARKS AND SPENCER To keep us calm, mindful and grounded through 2018 we’re turning to natural shades and botanical designs, and M&S have stocked this seasons shelves with just what we’re looking for. Across their homewares range, from bed linen to dinnerware, you’ll find lovely garden-esque items in serene greens, duck egg blues and rustic finishes. Ideal…

WILLIAM MORRIS, English designer, writer and social activist, was devoted to the decorative arts. A century on and his legacy lives on and his work as a writer, poet, embroiderer, designer, calligrapher, dyer, weaver, architectural preservationist, socialist and publisher is still influential today. In this special 44-page supplement, part of issue 32 of Today’s Quilter, we celebrate the life and legacy of this extraordinary man. Starting with the William Morris timeline, we track the events of his illustrious working life through the decades. Jane Rae visits the William Morris Gallery in London and brings us some wonderful images. Morris’s daughter May was an artist in her own right and we take pleasure in showcasing her work. The new Kelmscott Collection from FreeSpirit is created from William Morris originals and we’re excited…

From Mexico with love Your beautiful magazine is a great source of inspiration for me. I own a small quilt shop in Mexico City called Quiltearte, and wait every month for Today’s Quilter. I made these scrappy cushions inspired by Jo Avery’s design and enjoyed the Cathedral window and the pincushion and needle book. Now I am enjoying working with Luna Lapin. Lilia Jiménez, via email We love the patchwork roof and the heart detail on the front door, Lilia, it’s beautiful! Working together We are East Carlton Quilters, known as Quiltatude (quilters with attitude). Last year, after a difficult year, we needed a project to pull us all back together, something fun, nothing too taxing. A dear friend and member (now no longer with us) had introduced us to your magazine and we chose…
