editor’s letter

I first fell in love with the Scottish landscape as a child, several years before I’d ever travelled there, inspired by the legend of Mary, Queen of Scots. Antonia Fraser’s evocative biography of the doomed Queen conjured up Mary’s life for me, as well as her untimely death; but I was also fascinated by the places associated with her birth, ascension to the throne and imprisonment: Linlithgow Palace, Stirling Castle and Loch Leven. As is evident in our latest cover story, the Town & Country team has been similarly stirred by the drama of Mary, and Scotland’s tempestuous history and wild beauty; and I very much hope that you will be as enthralled as we were, following in her footsteps on a journey where the past is as alive…

a country bride

A rustic setting need not call for simple wedding attire. Instead, say ‘I do’ to swathes of silk and tulle, adorned with countless crystals; look for glamorous pieces, such as Mira Zwillinger’s intricately brocaded dress with delicate ruffle straps. Add a sprinkling of glitz in embellished flats by Jimmy Choo and complete the look with Gucci’s lace gloves.PHOTOGRAPHSS: RIIC CH HARD PHIBBS, GETTY IMAGES, PIXELATE, LUCKY IF SHARP.
