Most art collections require years of dedicated acquisition. But for one family of four, the purchase of an apartment in Lower Manhattan’s tallest residential skyscraper, 30 Park Place, was too great a opportunity to resist. Curator Barbara Cartategui was enlisted to work with the interiors and architecture proposed by Workshop/APD. Cartategui spent a year sourcing contemporary works from the likes of Tracey Emin, James Turrell, Georg Baselitz, Ángela de la Cruz and Zilia Sánchez. I have been a fan of GAETANO PESCE for as long as I can remember. I recently purchased his Up Series chair as a Christmas gift to myself last year, after lusting after it for years. My daughters have so much fun playing on it and its this pure joy that I love most about his iconic designs, conversation starters that have always blurred the boundary between FURNITURE AND ART. The Italian master’s work epitomises what I love most about design — purpose-driven thinking that becomes part of everyday life forming lasting memories of home.
