August bank holiday was the first time this year that I ventured out with my family in the Big Bus. During lockdown and the subsequent easing, we have tried to be responsible and acted according to a fairly strict interpretation of the government’s guidelines. It was in truth, with a mixture of some trepidation and not a little excitement, that we headed to the first ever ‘Camper Site’ event. Organised by our sister company, Jazz Events, the plan was simple, to use the beautiful and let’s face it huge grounds of Weston Park, home of Camper Jam in more normal times, to offer responsible and socially distanced camping within the grounds, along with a few select food traders, access to a craft fair that Weston Park were coincidentally holding on the…

Bunk Refresh Nomads On Offer In addition to Bunk Campers re-opening and offering their range of VW Campervans for hire, they are also in the process of updating their fleet. As a consequence they are selling their ex-rental VW T6s on sister company Camperco’s showroom forecourts in Coventry, Edinburgh and Belfast. All of their VWs for hire and sale are converted exclusively for them by another part of the group, Nomad Campervans at their VW workshop in Coventry—using Reimo roofs, beds and insulation, Vohringer kitchen furniture, Webasto diesel heating, Wurth electric cabling, etc. So if you’re in the market for a well built campervan it would be worth checking out www.thecampercoshowroom.com. Throw In The Towel Dry Packing These premium quality microfibre towels do exactly what you’d expect. This version, however, comes with a soft, zippered…

ever changing mood

Prior to owning to owning his T4, Mark Ainsley was more than happy to be driving around in his 1999, 35th Anniversary model Ford Mustang GT, with a 4.6 litre V8 motor on board. In his own words Mark “drove it like a muppet” and if you’ve ever sat behind a car that’s capable of doing a low 14 second quarter mile and rocks like a V8 does, then you’ll understand. Due to his poor driving habits and resulting mpg the Mustang was relegated to being a weekend car, and a cheap diesel Citroen Saxo was bought to help Mark complete his seventy mile commute, without costing an arm and a leg. But it wasn’t long before he tired of the French hatchback and decided that a campervan, specifically a…

story’s story

After a day and night by a Polish lake on the boarders of Poland and Lithuania, we waited until later in the afternoon, before driving the four hours to Warsaw in readiness for a day of sightseeing. The trusty Park4night app saw us reside outside Warsaw zoo, perfect walking distance from the centre. We were rudely awoken the following morning by a jumped-up traffic parking warden person who informed us we (and about five other vans) had parked in the wrong position. He then proceeded to move us twenty meters to another space which looked exactly the same. Given that Warsaw is steeped in history, we opted to take one of the free walking tours around the city. This was fascinating, yet devastating sad at the same time, to think what the…

married to the marque

When the owner Marc Longo married Michelle, he obviously made the usual vows to love his wife for better or worse, but he hadn’t bargained on how much richer, and maybe just a touch poorer he’d be by joining in with the in-laws and their VW habit. His father-in-law, Tom, has a neat T4, while his brother-in-law, also called Tom, owns a very cool Splitty. Marc felt that he would rather have a touch of modern luxury, so, when his need for a VW started, he set about looking for a T5 as a suitable candidate for a daily driver. He spotted this 2005, 1.9 diesel, painted in a rather unusual VW shade called Limette after he’d been to view another that was Mint Green. That one had been a parts…

call an ambulance

From Panel Van to a Pick-up, from a Kombi to Micro Bus (both standard and De Luxe) Volkswagen had it sussed almost from day one. But there was one further model included in the line-up of core models. Yes, you’ve guessed it, the Krankenwagen or in our lingo, the Ambulance. Forty years later, to the month, us Brits were awarded with a sixteen page brochure devoted to the all-new T4 version of the Ambulance. That near whole Amazonian rain forest is significant too, for the main brochure … the one simply named The New Transporter … had exactly the same number of pages as this one, while size-wise VW were looking at identical twins, each piece of print measuring 210mm x 297mm. Should such extravagance be thrown at what was after…
