The show, starring Parminder Nagra, beat the penultimate episode of The Split on BBC1, which drew 1.6m. Best known for… Dennis was George Carter (right) in The Sweeney (1974-1978), lovable bodyguard Terry McCann in Minder (1979-1989), and cold-case cop Gerry Standing in New Tricks (2003-2015). Other achievements… His 60-year career kicked off in childhood with roles in William (1962) and American sitcom Fair Exchange (1962-1963). He also starred in the classic film Up the Junction (1968) and sang the theme tune for Minder. Family life… Dennis was married four times – Penny Dixon (1967), Patricia Maynard (1977), Rula Lenska (1987) and Pam Flint (2011). He died peacefully at his home in Spain with Pam on 8 May 2022. He has two daughters.…
