New HAPPY VALLEY New Year’s Day, 9pm, BBC1 The six-year wait is over, as Yorkshire drama Happy Valley returns for its thrilling finale. The six-part series begins as Sergeant Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) discovers the body of a gangland murder victim, which is somehow linked to her nemesis, rapist and murderer Tommy Lee Royce, setting their lives on a collision course. While Catherine’s sister Clare (Siobhan Finneran) is fairly settled, more worryingly, her grandson Ryan (Rhys Connah), now 16, hasn’t been truthful about his own relationship with the man Catherine refuses to acknowledge as his father. ‘Once again, Tommy forces his way into Catherine’s life,’ says James Norton, who plays him. ‘They’re like old-fashioned epic adversaries.
