Best known for… The US star won an Oscar for his role in the 1985 film Kiss of the Spider Woman. He played General ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in five Marvel films. On TV, he played Daniel Purcell in season two of legal thriller Damages in 2009. Other achievements… William was nominated for three further Academy Awards for Children of a Lesser God, Broadcast News and A History of Violence. He appeared on TV shows Goliath, ITV’s Beowulf and Condor, while his last telly appearance was in Apple TV+ comedy Mythic Quest in 2021. Family life… William had terminal prostate cancer and died at home on 13 March. He was 71 and is survived by his four children.…
