Midsomer Murders NEW Sunday, 8pm, ITV Drama In a Midsomer special for its 25th-anniversary year, DS Jamie Winter (Nick Hendrix) and DCI John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) are called to the annual Midsomer Scarecrow Festival in Little Upton, where things have taken a grisly turn and bodies begin appearing on poles next to their straw creations. It soon becomes clear that beneath the surface of respectability and fun, rivalries run deep in this picturesque village. Winning singing The Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Turin, Italy, on 14 May, drew in its biggest audience since 2015 to BBC1, with 8.9m watching Ukraine win and the UK’s Sam Ryder (pictured) coming second. It beat BGT on ITV, which drew 4.2m. Game over ITV’s celebrity sporting-challenge show The Games, which was stripped across the week, fared badly when the final aired on 13 May, with just 1.7m tuning in to see Wes Nelson (pictured) crowned winner with the most points. It couldn’t match C4’s Gogglebox, which pulled in 3.2m.…

Best known for… Kay wrote some of our favourite TV dramas, including the hit shows Fat Friends, The Syndicate, Band of Gold, In the Club and the football series Playing the Field. She was also an actor and was in the 90s series Just Us, which she also wrote. Other achievements… The Yorkshire-born writer began her career on the kids’ series Dramarama before creating the daytime soap Families (1990-1993). She received an OBE in 2009 and was a regular on Loose Women and The Wright Stuff. Family life… Kay died on 15 May, aged 71.
