It narrowly beat the second episode of BBC1’s The Green Planet, which pulled in 4.2m. Losing game Despite drawing 3.2m viewers for the first episode on 11 January, BBC1’s workplace-harassment drama Rules of the Game struggled on 12 January, with its second episode pulling in just 2.5m. Best known for… Peter presented popular BBC show Gardeners’ World, starting out as a guest host in 1976. He was soon a firm favourite and worked on the show regularly until 2007. Other achievements… He was also a presenter on BBC1’s lunchtime series Pebble Mill at One from 1981 until 1984 and covered the Chelsea Flower Show for the BBC. Peter worked as a gardening columnist until his death and recently campaigned against the ban on the use of peat in commercial horticulture. Family life… Peter died in Chelmsford, Essex, on 14 January, aged 86. He’s survived by his children, Alison and Roger.…
