Best known for… The comedy star first became a household name during the 1970s as nosy neighbour Phyllis on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, a role that won her two out of her total of eight Emmy Awards. She went on to lead the cast of her own spin-off series, Phyllis. Other achievements… She won another two of her Emmys as Grandma Ida in the hit sitcom Malcolm in the Middle (2001-2006), as well as an Oscar for the 1972 film The Last Picture Show. Family life… Cloris was 94 when she died in her sleep on 27 January at her California home. She’s survived by four of her five children. Her son, Bryan, died in 1986.
