what a week

MEGHAN S ‘VULGAR STUNT’ Never one to keep opinions to herself, Lady Colin Campbell, 72, has slammed the Duchess of Sussex once more. The author of Meghan and Harry: The Real Story took to her YouTube channel to discuss the Sussexes’ every move during their recent trip to New York, with Meghan’s wardrobe a particular focus. Despite temperatures hitting 28 degrees, Meghan wore winter coats – which Lady C claims were designed by a brand the duchess has ‘financial affiliation with’. While Lady C’s claims appear unsubstantiated, she added, ‘Meghan has yet again shown us how completely vulgar, crass, common and quite frankly how ghastly she is.’ Ouch! PET OF THE WEEK Penny Lancaster and her pooch Lily look adorable posing in their blue badges to support Battersea’s ‘Wear Blue for Rescue’ campaign. I’M A CELEB…

shock strictly sacking?

From contestants being forced to pull out to hosts threatening to quit, this series of Strictly Come Dancing has been far from plain sailing. With the level of drama threatening to outweigh the number of sequins adorning the celebrities, the last thing bosses needed was a potentially serious scandal surfacing, but after some furious viewers flocked to social media to demand a shock sacking, it looks as if things might not be settling down any time soon. Thanks to social media, things people often want to forget have a way of coming back to haunt them – as new judge Anton Du Beke knows all too well. A sackable offence In 2009, Anton, 55, then a professional dancer on the programme, was partnered with Footballers Wives star Laila Rouass. A report at the…

the royal insider

‘THE QUEEN HAS NO PLANS TO STEP DOWN’ Her Majesty will take centre stage next month when Glasgow plays host to the critical COP26 climate summit. But as the eyes of the world focus on Scotland, the major environmental event will have a far deeper significance for the 95-year-old monarch. Her mere presence at the hotly anticipated summit will mark a watershed moment in Her Majesty’s long reign. In many ways it should be interpreted as a statement of intent – our Queen will continue to reign over us. It had long been speculated that she would continue until her ‘rock’, Prince Philip, was no longer by her side. Even senior members of the Royal Family were unsure about how the Queen would be feeling now, as her private period of mourning was prolonged by a…

the shocking rise of painkiller addiction

With the NHS at breaking point, the number of people on waiting lists for surgeries for painful conditions has spiralled to 5.6 million during the pandemic. It’s little wonder GP prescriptions of powerful painkillers such as codeine, tramadol and morphine have risen by 40%.* These drugs are potent, hard to quit and can bring addiction in as little as a few days. Many people struggle to stop. Of those who succeed, half relapse, leaving them suffering the strain of withdrawal again. People in physical pain need help, but at what cost? The dangers of opiate addiction are real – NICE has recommended that those in chronic pain are no longer prescribed them, and are instead given antidepressants and therapy. Every year, the number of people in the UK dying from opiate abuse rises,…
