What a week it’s been for the royals, huh? The Windsor woes definitely put any of the Woman’s Day team’s petty family squabbles into perspective, that’s for sure! You can read all about the Oprah interview aftermath from page 14, but I’d like to dedicate this editorial to the other strong women sharing their stories in this issue. I’ve adored Kiwi stuntwoman/ actress Zoë Bell ever since her work on my favourite film of all time, Kill Bill: Vol. 1, and I’m so grateful to her for opening up about the terrifying accident that spelt the end of her three-year relationship (p24). Then there’s my new movie idol, Tioreore Ngatai-Melbourne, who’s incredible in the local drama Cousins and reveals the tragedy that’s driven her blossoming career (p32). Shout-out also to…

KATIE’S SECRET DAWSON’S CREEK REBOOT REVEALED! A sneaky plot by Katie Holmes to reboot Dawson’s Creek, the 1990s cult TV show that made her a star, has been revealed – however, the original cast is divided over getting on board. Katie, 42, who has suffered a career lull in recent years, is said to be “feeling nostalgic” and keen to get her working life back on track. Sources say James Van Der Beek, 44, who played Dawson Leery, is “totally behind the idea”, and Woman’s Day understands Busy Phillips, 41, and Kerr Smith, 49, are “tentatively interested” – but A-listers Joshua Jackson, 42, and Michelle Williams, 40, aren’t as enthused. “They’ve gone on to have amazing, huge careers and feel no need to return to their roots,” says an insider. “Plus, Michelle’s character…

they’ll never be the same!

When the camera panned to the pregnant Duchess of Sussex as she sat, clad in a $6000 Armani dress, in a garden of one of the most affl uent suburbs in the world, the scene was set for a dazzling Hollywood interview with the inimitable Oprah Winfrey. And within minutes of exchanging pleasantries, Meghan, 39, settled into her wicker chair under the Santa Barbara sunshine and began to give what she knew would be a monumental tell-all that would bring the monarchy to its knees. It was a piece of television that veteran interviewer Oprah promised would shock – and she didn’t disappoint. PALACE UNDER FIRE Over several hours, Meghan and her husband Prince Harry, 36, levelled a litany of serious complaints about their finances, neglect and even accusations of racism within the institution…

PRINCESS DIANA, 1995 Who would have believed there would one day be a royal interview to top this? Diana’s interview with British journalist Martin Bashir was staggering and embarrassing for the royal family, with the People’s Princess sharing intimate details about her marriage to Prince Charles and her struggle with royal life three years after their separation. There were revelations about Diana’s battle with bulimia and depression and, of course, the role Camilla Parker Bowles had played in her unhappy marriage. “There were three of us in this marriage so it was a bit crowded,” Diana famously said in the interview that has recently made headlines all over again over the journalist’s invasive questioning and methods used to set up the chat. PRINCE CHARLES, 1994 It was Charles who had the first word on those…

wills & kate in damage control

While the Queen’s blunt statement appeared to end discussion on the Sussex situation from Buckingham Palace’s point of view, Woman’s Day’s sources say that behind the scenes, courtiers are still scrambling to contain the fallout – and fear for what might be next. Amid hushed conversations behind closed doors, we’re told a plan is being hatched to dispatch the Duke, 38, and Duchess of Cambridge to California to meet with Harry and Meghan and see if they can’t salvage the situation to save the monarchy. “The impression everyone got from the interview was that Harry and Meghan felt unheard in their roles as royals and had no choice but to go as public as humanly possible with their version of the truth,” says a source. “While the family didn’t necessarily agree with that,…
