Where do you find inspiration? There is plenty of it in this issue, whether in the technological ingenuity – and sheer gung-ho human courage – required to attempt speed sailing at 80 knots, or the awe-inspiring beauty and tranquility of a remote Artic anchorage. Sailing is never the simplest solution, which must mean that sailors have something in them that draws them to the complex and the challenging. Stubbornness, perhaps, is a factor! But how else do you earn the greater rewards? And as this month’s ‘wild’ issue demonstrates, the rewards – swimming with sharks during a mass migration, visiting islands so rarely touched by humans there is almost no way to land on them – can be truly extraordinary. We do not have to sail to the ends of the earth…
