fabulously 50 at annabel’s

The 50th birthday celebration of one of London’s leading NRI surgeons, Dr Raj Ragoowansi, was held at one of the city’s most happening clubs, Annabel’s in Mayfair. Basking in the rich ambience, guests were also treated to music by DJ Alexander, specially flown in from the Bagatelle club, in St Tropez. The who’s who from London’s NRI community showed up to raise a toast to the city’s most popular cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon. Along with free-flowing Rosé Champagne, the party boasted of specially curated cocktails and a scrumptious gourmet spread. Did you always plan to be a fashion designer? What had inspired you to launch your own label? “Well, I was always a brilliant student and, just like other quintessential Indian parents, mine expected me to follow a business-centric academic path in order to further the burgeoning family business of iron and steel. After I filled out the forms for the NIFT entrance exam, my dad told me that if I were to not get through, I’d have to tread on the path chosen by them for me. Honestly, all I ever wanted was to act on the voice inside of me – a fledgling curious to explore and express. And, as fate would have it, I got accepted at Central Saint Martins and the rest is history. “After I came back…

actress and society stalwart suzie demetri robertson

‘I am a member of the Arabian Gazelles, which really must be the only ladies-only supercar club of its kind’ It’s no wonder Kris Jenner comparisons immediately pop up when you talk about Dubai-based powerhouse Suzie Demetri Robertson. The immaculately-turned out brunette, whose palatial Emirates Hills home is like a film set and resort in one, has a multitude of titles – she’s an actor, a model, a wife, a mum-of-three, a momager and now, she’s added executive producer to her CV. The release of this British-born beauty’s passion project – the first independent film she’s ever produced, a drama directed by Jacques Brown – seems to mirror her own life as it’s full of fast cars and fancy spots showcasing a fabulous life in the sun. Another point of comparison with the…

ALL ABOUT TRUE STYLE I absolutely agree with the observation that HELLO! made in the September issue that “Style is being overused, misused and abused.” People are confusing the term “style” with “fashion,” but that’s an error I have never seen HELLO! commit. Style is a way of life and it can’t be copied or imitated. One can wear a dhoti styled along the lines of what Baba Ramdev wears, but that won’t make their style sensibilities similar. Over the years, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja has become synonymous with style and she has an impeccable aesthetic sense. Pernia Qureshi’s ‘Most Stylish List’ makes it evident that professions don’t dictate the fashion sensibilities of a person. Roohi Jaikishan’s feature on the A to Z of Style was also very informative and well presented. R…
