Sheikh Khalifa was President of the UAE and ruler of Abu Dhabi As a sign of his increasing royal duties, the Duke of Cambridge represented the Queen last week to deliver her condolences in person to the United Arab Emirates following the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It was the first time that William, who flew into the country overnight, had been asked to pass on the monarch’s respects following the death of a foreign head of state. Celebrating the Queen while highlighting the work of a conservation charity is quite a challenge, but the Eggs of an Era exhibition, created in collaboration with Elephant Family, has cracked it. On display in London’s Chelsea until 12 June, the seven giant egg-shaped artworks each represent a different decade of the Queen’s reign. Elephant Family, which was set up by the Duchess of Cornwall’s late brother Mark Shand – and of which she and the Prince of Wales are now joint royal presidents – hopes that the display will draw attention to the damage caused by collecting wild birds’ eggs. And anyone wanting to shell out for one of the artworks will be able to place bids in a fundraising auction next year. They have already been given the thumbs-up by Bollywood…
