i’m dreaming of a colorful christmas…

To say we talk a lot about color at HGTV Magazine is the understatement of the year. Swear to Santa, it’s our favorite topic. We never get tired of it because color allows you to have the most fun and use the most creativity when you decorate— whether it’s a room or a Christmas tree. Around the holidays, we focus these convos on color combos. Now let me say right away: There’s nothing wrong with red and green; we use that classic-as-they-come duo plenty. But we wouldn’t be totally satisfied if we didn’t also show you a bunch of new color twists, trends, and combinations that might knock your striped socks off this season. Want to get festive with tangerine, fuchsia, turquoise, chartreuse, purple, and yellow? Be our guest! Looking…

Readers share their thoughts and tell us which stories inspired them most. The hexagon shelves on your October cover were exactly what my newly decorated living room needed. I built my own with help from my brother, and now they’re the stars of the room. —Kelsey Woodell, Lancaster, CA Your magazine rocks! Every month when it arrives in the mail, I carve out time to sit down and savor the whole thing like a fine wine. “The High/Low List” is always my favorite. I can’t get enough of the stylish look-alikes with different price tags. Thanks for all the tips that help me stretch my decorating dollars. —Nancy O’Rourke, Ocala, FL Congratulations on your fifth birthday! Your October issue proved you’re still going strong. I’m thrilled to have been a subscriber since the beginning. Great taste never goes…

Brothers Take New Orleans premieres on HGTV on Wednesday, November 23, at 9 p.m. ET. the scott brothers love a heated competition, and now they’re sweating it out over who can add more value to their half of a duplex near New Orleans’ French Quarter. After a call from SBP, a disaster recovery nonprofit dedicated to rebuilding homes, Drew and Jonathan flew to New Orleans to get to work overhauling the Hurricane Katrina–ravaged structure for two SBP-sponsored families. Renovating these historic shotgun-style homes has been incredibly tricky, to say the least. The brothers had to deal with years of neglect, plus a previous reno attempt that had gone all wrong. Jonathan says, “This transformation is unlike anything we’ve ever done.” “At work” in New Orleans While filming, the brothers frequented the famous Café…

making things easier in the big easy

Food and shelter are the most basic human necessities and Marie Callender’s is helping to provide both, as we discovered when we visited them on location with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. With the Comforts from Home project, every time you enter a code from a specially marked package of Marie Callender’s meals or desserts, Marie will make a donation to Habitat for Humanity to build homes and better futures with families like those we meet on the following page. WELCOME TO ANNETTE STREET Friends, neighbors, and fi rst-time homeowners Gloria and Trenace were among the families we met in New Orleans when the Marie Callender’s food truck rolled up on Annette Street. Filled with desserts like Chocolate Satin, Coconut Cream, and Dutch Apple pies, the Marie Callender’s truck rewarded Habitat…
