I have a confession to make: I haven’t always loved color. I wore almost exclusively black in college, and when I got my first apartment, I automatically went for a black sofa, a white bed, and natural jute rugs. Cut to a few years later: I was working at Country Living magazine and wrote a story about Fiestaware ceramics, which are famous for their eye-popping shades. I surprised myself by becoming obsessed with the company—and filling my cabinets with its dishes and plates, each one a different color. I loved mixing and matching them.
