Well, let my failure be your success… Use them wisely New Year’s resolutions should be an excuse to force yourself to do the things you want to do. Something fun, exciting and maybe a little scary. They should not, under any circumstances, be used as a way to berate yourself on a regular basis for the next 12 months. Make them manageable Why do we hate ourselves? Stop making New Year’s resolutions that only a super-human with access to a 24-hour personal trainer, five assistants and a private jet would achieve. Make them specific I cannot tell you how…

Soft focus What’s better than a consensual hug between colleagues? Nothing. Except maybe acting beauty editor Laura’s new fluffy lilac jumper, which caused quite the stir in the office. Here’s editor Claire getting in on the act. Oh, the joy! Hair today Our feature on scalp health needed expert concentration from our models. You know when someone tells you to sit still and you just. Can’t. Manage. It? Yeah, that. Elphie time! Inventor of the Elphie™ (elephant selfie, duh), executive editor Amy looks rightly pleased with herself for capturing this photo-bomb while in Sri Lanka. For more of her escapades, see p126. Ms Motivator Art editor/fitness model/ team exercise guru Jessica demonstrates how to slip in late for work from the gym without anyone noticing. Like no one. She was essentially invisible. Act casual Which is 100% exactly what…

‘Tis the season! No, not that one… it’s awards season, and we’ve been looking deep into Cosmo’s crystal ball to see which films, actors and directors are worthy of taking home the little gold man at this year’s pulled-forward Oscars ceremony, happening on 9th February (turn over for more). From Greta Gerwig’s Little Women to Fox News biopic Bombshell, starring Best-Actress-triple-threat Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie, there’s more female power than ever. Roll out the red carpet (and give J-Law some precautionary knee pads).…

the true story of bombshell

1. WHO WAS ROGER AILES? Roger Ailes (played by John Lithgow, right) started his career as a Republican political consultant, supporting Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George Bush in the ’60s. Rupert Murdoch spotted Ailes’ influence, hiring him to launch Fox News in 1996 – a move that The New York Times says led to the network having “an average daily viewership of two million – more than CNN and the left-leaning MSNBC combined”. Ailes reportedly received an annual salary of $20 million (around £15.5 million) during his 20-year tenure at Fox News, and was said to have advised the Trump presidential campaign. Following his resignation in 2016, Ailes, who had haemophilia, died of bleeding on the brain in 2017, aged 77. 2. GRETCHEN CARLSON CLAIMS: Sexual assault allegations against Ailes first came to…

BOOK OF THE MONTH OLIVIA PURVIS The Insecure Girl’s Handbook What’s it about? Feeling good and bidding farewell to self-doubt. With chapters on building better friendships and stopping comparison, blogger Olivia Purvis delivers a confidence boost. Why should we trust her? She has 184k followers on Instagram, but Purvis isn’t your average #ad #spon influencer – she also set up empowering online community The Insecure Girls’ Club. Biggest lesson: Insecurity affects everyone. “You’re on a boat with Emma Watson, Beyoncé, Michelle Obama and Meryl Streep. Imagine! Is this a P&O celebrity cruise special? No! This is HMS Insecurity – and we’re all riding it together.” Advice we’ll ignore: “Try chatting to someone in the queue at the supermarket.” We’ll stick to keeping a low profile while standing at the self-service in our PJs. Out 6th Feb FOUR…

a celebrity guide to pulling off a rebrand

HARRY STYLES REBRANDED FROM ONE DIRECTION BOYBANDER TO THE FASHION WORLD’S DARLING Formerly known as “the long-haired lothario from 1D”, Harry’s evolved into a sexually ambiguous Bowie-esque superstar. After emerging in florals and flares to release his self-titled solo album in 2017, Harry hit the silver screen in Dunkirk. He then modelled for Gucci and owned the pink carpet at the 2019 Met Gala in heeled boots and a pearl earring. Harry’s second album came out last year – and he confessed to trying magic mushrooms while recording it. Simon Cowell’s 16-year-old prodigy is unrecognisable. EMMA WATSON REBRANDED FROM HARRY POTTER CHILD STAR TO UNITED NATIONS AMBASSADOR Emma Watson’s 2014 HeForShe speech at the United Nations kickstarted her rebrand from Harry Potter’s Hermione Granger to a full-blown feminist icon, bringing the campaign for women’s equality to a…
