By now, you’ll have no doubt seen Steve and Liam Miller’s Mk2 Focus RS and Escort Cosworth on the cover. This father-and-son duo are regulars at shows and events and both share a strong passion for Fords. And that got me thinking; there really isn’t another car scene in the world where the affection for the brand is passed from generation to generation quite like it is with fast Fords. Without even realising it, many of us have our parents or close family friends to blame for our fondness for a Ford. That’s not a criticism, it’s a good thing. A great thing. Compare that to some other car groups; owners come and go, depending on whether that particular car fits their needs at that time. Other marques see owners flitter from…

did any of your parents’ cars inspire you?

“Yep. One that really sticks in my mind the most is my dad’s Sierra XR4x4; lowered, 17in alloys, and a ‘chipped’ 2.9-litre V6 meant I looked forward to every trip in it. I even drove it around an industrial estate when I was young teen once – I loved it!” JAMIE, EDITOR “My parents have never been ‘car people’ but I was still hugely influenced by what they owned. Most obviously their 1.8-litre Sapphire which I passed my test in! My F-reg Cossie is even the same year, just with a fair bit more power!” ADE, PHOTOGRAPHER “The first car I remember my dad having was a Mk1 Cortina, so that set the trend for latter years. My first car was a Mk1 Golf, so I had an affinity for VWs for a while,…

third time lucky

For most of us, daily drivers are usually pretty dull – especially if you have kids. Volvos, Kugas and Focuses are all standard fare on the dreaded school run, but Dean and his three kids are surely the coolest commuters in Essex. “This ST is my daily driver”, he explains. “I’ve been a Ford man since the age of four, and in all those years I’m yet to find a better blend of everyday reliability and fun than these Fiestas offer.” In fact, Dean loves them so much that he’s owned two ST-2 versions before buying his current ST-3. He jokes, “I’ve tried to get away from them three times, but I keep coming back. I even had a Mk2 Focus RS in between the Fiestas, but I’ll be honest: it felt…

FIESTA ST EDITION Following in the footsteps of previous RS Editions, Ford have launched a special Edition model of the Mk8 Fiesta ST too. As well as the new Azure Blue paintwork with gloss black highlights, the Edition models benefit form the same coilovers as the limited-numbers (of 600!) Performance Edition that was released last year; with the same 12-point bump and 16-point rebound settings, allowing users to fine-tune the handling to really suit their preference. The similarities don’t stop there; the same Ford Performance lightweight flow-formed ten-spoke 18in alloys are borrowed from the orange car too – although now finished in high gloss black, along with the rear diffuser, spoiler, and new ST badges. The usually-optional Quaife diff comes fitted on all Editions too. Inside, the cabin is clad with classy…
