my 18-year-old nephew walked up to me at a family cookout a while back and asked where we’d be for Christmas. I wanted to hug him, not for his suggestion that we all get together—although that was sweet. I wanted to hug him because it was September 27, and his ability to think that far ahead was the most hopeful thing I’d heard in months. Christmas in a Glass Here’s a reason to get a real Christmas tree: You can make a cocktail out of it! The new book How to Eat Your Christmas Tree includes dozens of recipes for cooking with the needles from firs, spruces and pines. Author Julia Georgallis suggests using them for curing fish, infusing ice cream, brewing tea and making a cordial for these Christmas Tree Sours. An iconic Christmas movie is getting cereal-ized. Son of a nutcracker—Buddy the Elf has his own cereal! Fans of the 2003 holiday movie know that syrup is one of Buddy’s four main food groups, so General Mills made sure to add plenty of syrup flavor to the limited-edition puffs. Boba is booming. The Taiwanese milk and tea drink made with tapioca pearls has been a hit on Grubhub: Boba orders spiked 168 percent in the first half of the year. And big brands are joining the craze, too. 6 a.m. It’s day two of filming Christmas Cookie Challenge in New Orleans, and I’m up extra early because I need to get in a workout before heading to the set. I try to be creative when I’m on the road, so I often travel with resistance bands and do HIIT-style workouts because they don’t take long and they use very minimal equipment. My workout this morning involves squats, squat jumps, curls, lunges and push-ups. 7 a.m. Workout complete! Now it’s time to get my caffeine fix, so I head over to PJ’s Coffee and grab an iced Americano, the biggest size they have. During filming, coffee is a must, as the days are usually long and I want to keep my on-screen energy up the entire time. 7:45 a.m. Iced Americano…
