lights, camera, action!

On the cover is the second edition of our cross-over campaign between lifestyle brands and designers, which stages a collection of quality homeware that cuts a path through time, along with thought-provoking art that goes hand in hand in harmony with furniture of any style. Together, they spark meaningful dialogue about what quality design truly means, and how this elevates the quality of our daily lives. The real fun, though, happened backstage where the creative chemistry generated by this inspiring group of designers and art connoisseurs originally took place. It was a two-day production covering both video and print. Time was tight, but the space for creativity was not. For the best result, we pivoted, improvised and adapted. It was a room filled with ideas and laughter. Which is why I would…

tropical glam

Nothing says summer quite like a dash of Tropical Glam in the home. Defined by a blend of old and new, Tropical Glam is the epitome of what the golden age of Hollywood in the 1930s had to offer – the glitz, the glamour and the everlasting drama. To bring the tropics home, think whimsical foliage, bright hues, metallic accents, and bold patterns that promise to liven up the balmy summer days. Punch up the tropical vibe even further with dramatic lightings with shiny gold accents that make for a centrepiece in any room.…

a design visionary

“Dwellings should be designed not only to satisfy material specifications; they should also create conditions that foster harmonious balance and spiritual freedom in people’s lives.” – Charlotte Perriand. French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) is one of the giants of 20th-century modernist and humanist design, a trailblazer in innovation, and an avant-garde visionary whose work remains contemporary. A free spirit and fiercely independent woman, a sportswoman, traveller, and a pioneering futurist designer who championed good design for all, she created functional living spaces through her strong belief “that better design helps create a better society”. Her hugely influential design presence has long been overshadowed by her male contemporaries Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Jean Prouvé, and Fernand Léger. However, in recent years her furniture has become highly prized by collectors. “Art is in everything,…

an ode to quality

For an edition that salutes quality design, we bring together an art consultant, home-grown designers and innovative brands – spanning the realms from homeware to electronics – to discover the intrinsic qualities demonstrated in the art pieces and homeware products that art aficionados and design professionals turn to time…

BRIAN CHAN FACADE INTERIOR DESIGN Brian Chan, founder of Facade Interior Design, believes that quality design manifests itself in its harmonious planning and intricate details: together they contribute to a sense of balance. “As an interior designer, I want to bring sunlight, air and sleek lines into every project,” he says. “After completing a home interior, I like to just sit down, kickback and absorb the feeling that the space brings to me.” Among the many design products he’s come in contact with, Chan is especially fond of BoConcept’s iconic Imola armchair, and it’s easy to see why. One of the Danish furniture brand’s top-sellers, its details are meticulous: the strict organic shapes combined with the moulded foam offer a unique and outstanding look; and the high back not only gives the chair a…
