The year’s calendar of black-tie events and fundraising galas was full of surprises, some welcome, like the T. rex centrepiece of an exhibition organised by the First Initiative Foundation, and some not so, like Typhoon Mangkhut, which turned out to be the most powerful storm to have hit Hong Kong since records began in 1946.
