journeys of a lifetime

When it comes to travel bucket lists, the Hong Kong Tatler crowd tick a lot of boxes. So, for our annual Travel Issue, who better to recommend top destinations and jaw-dropping journeys than our city’s high-flying jet-setters. Fresh off the plane from an epic trip to New Zealand, Gigi Chao reveals all about her thrilling heli-hiking tour of the Franz Josef Glacier in our travelogue, Making Tracks. Fellow globetrotter Pearl Shek also raves about a recent trip to the Sahara desert in Morocco, passionate scuba diver Antonia Da Cruz describes awe-inspiring encounters with manta rays and dugongs in Komodo National Park, and art lover Jonathan Cheung suggests an itinerary of gallery-hopping in Texas. Read more real-life reviews from the Tatler community on page 112. Another high-profile Hongkonger with wanderlust is this month’s…

testing her limits

Cover shoots can be stressful, but Anne Wang-Liu certainly lifted the mood for hers, arriving laid-back and relaxed but with a get-up-and-go attitude. “This is so exciting,” the philanthropist exclaimed with a megawatt smile. Introducing herself to the crew, she was warm and welcoming, making sure everyone felt at ease. At the helm of the Hong Kong Tatler production was photographer Richard Ramos, who successfully captured Anne’s incredible energy and positive spirit in his images. Fashion director Justine Lee encouraged Anne to stray away from her usual style, which…

In the words of the great writer Gabriel García Márquez, “I’m a journalist who likes his comforts.” Travel’s best when it’s smooth, cushioned and climate-controlled. What’s your best travel memory? Getting stuck at Nihi Sumba for a few extra days thanks to volcanoes shutting down flights out of Bali. Stranded in paradise with my family—a happy problem. What’s your favourite holiday destination? Food, culture, style, sun, sea, nature, fast cars, “gioia di vivere”... oh, and did I mention food? Italy’s got it all. What’s one place on your bucket list? Like many Australians, I’ve explored the world but seen precious little of my own country. That needs to change, starting with a trip to the Outback. BHISAN…
