My husband, Stephen Colbert, and I would like to welcome you to the September issue. I was so excited about everyone who showed up for this issue (my first September) that I couldn’t settle on just one cover—so we made five. First, thank you to Selena Gomez, whom I first met four years ago. It’s been a thrill to see her conquer the world (yes, and Instagram) while remaining resolutely open and kind. As for Colbert, where would we be without him? In stressful times, he is there every night to make us laugh. We just had to make him our thinking woman’s centerfold. Next, Marc Jacobs—New York’s true fashion showman. I loved his last hip-hop-inspired collection so much, we asked some legends in the game to join him for a shoot in New…

#COUPLEGOALS I love the relationship @KeithUrban and Nicole have [with each other] and also with close friends #GoodPeople —@DGM2, via Twitter This woman is beyond inspiring... #nicolekidman, not only are you a rock star of an actress, but also an amazing human. —@MEGAN MCGOWN GAME CHANGER I’m so grateful I found “Making Myself Heard” [July], Sheryl Crow’s essay about her transformation. It was shocking to read, because a few years ago I felt exactly the same way she described her former self. I had pulmonary hypertension, which changed my life. I clipped the page and will keep it to always remind me. I believe things happen for a reason, and I’m now embracing life by relaxing a little bit more. Thank you very much for the article. —YASUKO JUNG, Rock Tavern, N.Y. The makings of a…

Selena Gomez isn’t one for half measures. After dipping her toes in the pool midway through our shoot at Frank Sinatra’s former Los Angeles home, she decided to fully plunge into the water, soaking her Louis Vuitton dress and her ’70s-inspired do. “We had finished only part of the shoot at that point, and everyone gasped out loud when she went underwater,” says InStyle creative director Rina Stone. “There were still three shots left to go.” Hairstylist Danilo embraced the playful turn of events and whipped her hair into a slicked-back style that had Gomez looking as cool as she felt.
