NEW DRAMA El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie From Friday 11 October, Netflix It’s fair to say that Breaking Bad is widely recognised as one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Running for five seasons from 2008 to 2013, the brilliant US drama earned a place in Guinness World Records as the most-critically-acclaimed TV series in history. So there’s good news for the hit show’s legions of fans this week when the story continues in Netflix’s new spin-off film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, which looks set to be one of the biggest TV events of 2019. CONSEQUENCES The Emmy-winning series came to a dramatic conclusion six years ago, when chemistry-teacher-turned-criminal-mastermind Walter White (Bryan Cranston) sacrificed his life to rescue his long-suffering former partner-in-crime Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), who was being held captive…

where we left off…

The series followed New Mexico chemistry teacher Walter White, who turned to a life of crime – cooking and selling meth – after being diagnosed with lung cancer and wanting to leave money to his family. Jesse was a small-time meth user and dealer who had been one of Walt’s students, and became his business partner in the meth trade. Over five series, Walt transformed himself into criminal mastermind Heisenberg, while he and Jesse came up against some terrifying underworld figures. As Jesse started feeling guilty about the drug-related deaths, especially that of his girlfriend, Jane, his loyalty to Walt was tested when he learnt that Walt poisoned his new girlfriend Andrea’s young son, Brock, who recovered after spending time in hospital. As a result, Jesse teamed up with Walt’s DEA brother-in-law, Hank,…

dangerous whispers…

Following the departure of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), events jumped forward six years. Jesus was killed by the Whisperers, a group of survivors who disguise themselves as Walkers. After several clashes, the Whisperers’ leader Alpha warned Daryl not to stray into her territory. To show her intent, the heads of 10 survivors, including Enid, Tara, and Ezekiel and Carol’s adopted son Henry, were found on sticks. Later in the series, the Kingdom was abandoned in favour of the Hilltop as Carol and Ezekiel decided to divorce, and Carol moved back to Alexandria. In the final scene, a woman’s voice was heard over the radio asking for help……

day of the dead

NEW DRAMA The Walking Dead Monday, FOX HD, 9pm On a sweltering August day in Senoia, Georgia, TV&Satellite Week is on set for series 10 of FOX’s smash-hit post-apocalyptic drama The Walking Dead. Slightly zombified with jet lag, we’re lurking in the woods by the corrugated iron perimeter fence that keeps the inhabitants of Alexandria safe from the undead ‘Walkers’ who stalk the land following a deadly global virus. Nearby, terrifying-looking extras are having their clothes and teeth blackened while chatting to crew and grabbing drinks from cool boxes. Smoke (made by smoke machines) hangs in the air and, to add to the air of foreboding, buzzards circle in the sky above. During a break in filming, director Greg Nicotero, who started out as a make-up effects artist on George A Romero’s 1986 zombie classic Day…

NEW COMEDY Motherland Mon, BBC2 HD, 10pm (NI, 11.15pm) Anna Maxwell Martin may be best known for her performances in acclaimed dramas such as Mother’s Day and Line of Duty, but she’s also a brilliant comic actress, as she proved in the first series of Motherland. The star, 42, was nominated for a BAFTA for her portrayal of harassed, highly-strung mother Julia, and she returns to the role this week in a second series of the parenting comedy. The new run, co-written again by Sharon Horgan, finds Julia and her pals – laid-back single mum Liz (Diane Morgan) and nervy dad Kevin (Paul Ready) – still trying to avoid the withering gaze of pushy alpha mum Amanda (Lucy Punch). But this time, they have company in the form of confident, party-loving mum Meg (Tanya Moodie). Here,…
