As I write this, pubs and restaurants are opening up. Shops are welcoming us back through their doors and, for the first time in a long time, a sense of normality is dawning. It’s a lovely feeling. If you have the urge to satisfy your shopping habit (in person or online), we have a four-page guide on the best – and most flattering – denim buys in store now (page 18). It s good news as far as I’m concerned because it’s about time I tackled my love affair with the loungewear I’ve lived in for the past 12 months. Have a great week and enjoy the freedom!…

what a week!

TRIBUTES FLOOD IN FOR Jane Jane McDonald shared the heartbreaking news that fiancé Eddie Rothe had passed away, following a short battle with lung cancer. An announcement made on social media read, ‘It is with immense sadness that we share the news that Jane’s beloved long-term partner, Ed, passed away on Friday 26th March. The funeral took place earlier today and we would please ask for your kindness in observing Jane’s privacy for her and Ed’s family at this sad time.’ Singer Jane, 58, was inundated with messages of condolences and love, with one follower writing, ‘Completely heartbreaking. I’ve just finished your book Jane and your relationship with Ed was pure magic.’ Another said [sic], ‘Jane, this is so sad sending big hugs at this difficult time.’ And a third added, ‘I…

it’s time to set the record straight

William and Kate may still give their own interview to ‘set the record straight’ as the fallout from the Oprah bombshell continues, according to my palace sources. So far the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have resisted making any official response to allegations fired straight at them in Harry and Meghan’s interview last month. However, my palace insider has revealed the once ‘unthinkable’ move is increasingly emerging as one of the only ways to limit long-term damage to the Royal Family. Prior to the sad news of Prince Philip’s death, I’m told discussions had already taken place over which broadcaster should be approached in the event the Duke of Cambridge chooses the nuclear option. This will be interpreted as the strongest indication yet that the possibility of an interview is still on the…

seven sexy decades

60s Brief encounters Sir Tom Jones, now 80, found fame in 1965 with his single It’s Not Unusual, winning him rampant female fans, who started flinging underwear at him. In 2010, Tom admitted he ‘hated’ it, saying, ‘It’s just wrong.’ 70s Playing away Tom and Linda married in 1957. But with fame came temptation, and the couple came to an ‘arrangement’ where Linda stopped coming on tour. But Tom’s fling with 1973’s Miss World Marjorie Wallace (right) sparked fury in Linda. ‘She chinned me,’ said Tom. 80s A family affair Tom’s son Mark Woodward (shown) became his manager in 1986 at just 29, and is widely credited with reinventing his dad’s career. Sir Tom said, ‘We have a very special relationship. I’m grateful he’s done so much for my career, of course, but I’m also gratified as a…

the family must come together for philip

The ‘Iron Duke’ may have seemed invincible to the outside world, but fears over his deteriorating health had placed a continual personal strain on the Queen and the rest of the family ever since his car accident in January 2019. Speaking after Prince Philip’s death was announced, one source said the fact he had been in ill health for some time will come as little comfort to the Queen. They told me, ‘The Duke of Edinburgh had become increasingly frail and confused after his car crash. His wellbeing was a constant concern to the Queen, especially with the pandemic. ‘While his death may not have come as a surprise, this will not make it any less painful for Her Majesty at a time when the family were gearing up for his 100th birthday…

‘i’ve gained four stone!’

Joanna Lumley has always been glamorous and svelte, and has barely aged since she started modelling and acting in the late 60s. The Absolutely Fabulous star, now 74, has previously put her youthful glow down to a vegetarian diet, and advised others to follow in her footsteps, saying, ‘I don’t do exercises or special face routines or anything. But keep calm, keep cheerful. Be a vegetarian or cut down a bit on fish and meat, and eat more vegetables.’ But, despite her advice, Joanna has confessed she’s got – in her own words – ‘terribly fat’ during the pandemic, as she and her husband of 35 years, Stephen Barlow, have spent their downtime cooking and eating a lot more than she would normally. We sympathise, Joanna! Cooking together Prior to the pandemic, Joanna spent…
