For June, Vogue’s eye is indeed travelling – to paraphrase the late, great Diana Vreeland – with an issue created on four continents, featuring trains, boats, cars, motorbikes, a bicycle, a bus, a donkey, a chic little Fiat 500 and a galaxy’s worth of star models showcasing the best of easy, gorgeous, sunshine-ready fashion. Marco Capaldo, cofounder of 16Arlington – and 2023’s recipient of the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund prize – doesn’t shy away from a strong caffeine fix, starting his day with an espresso. “I then drink 15 more black Americanos,” he says, laughing. The perky pick-me-up inspired the brand’s a/w ’23 Wake collection to such an extent that its London Fashion Week runway in February was swathed in sands of recycled coffee grounds. hen Shanghai- and Chengdu-based womenswear designer Shie Lyu received an email inviting her to take part in a Vogue-initiated collaborative project with Stella McCartney, her astonishment bordered on disbelief. “I thought the message was spam,” exclaims Lyu, who founded her label in 2020.
