Theatre’s Terry Fortune is bringing the Cape’s matured jewels together to make history at their first appearance in the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts. The brainchild of Fortune, the Golden Oldies is a music collective consisting of Cape Town’s musicians of yesteryear. The Golden Oldies will include Terry Fortune, Madeegha Anders, Leslie Kleinsmith, Vernon Castle, PJ Powers, Lorraine Klaasen, Sophia Foster, the Darryl Andrew’s Show Band, with Emo and Loukmaan Adams as the masters of ceremonies on Sunday. The concert will pay tribute to and honour local performing artists and musicians for their significant contributions to the music industry and their communities. After a long and tough 2022 academic year, the Western Cape’s top learners who excelled in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams were celebrated for their achievements at a special awards ceremony hosted at Leeuwenhof, the official residence of Premier Alan Winde. Officials from the Western Cape Education Department praised the outstanding results of its 2022 matric class and the five candidates who ranked among the best and the brightest in the country. A woman was wounded during alleged gang crossfire on Wednesday morning after taking her 8-year-old child to school. The shooting took place opposite Dawood Butchery in Hanover Park when two gunmen opened fire, resulting in an accident between a bakkie and a car. Bilqees Adams, 28, had walked her son to school at Blomvlei Primary when she was shot in the hip. The Eshowe Regional Court in KwaZulu-Natal has sentenced a 32-year-old man to life in prison after he was found guilty of rape, kidnapping and aggravated assault. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said that in 2019, Bhekani Mlaba pretended to be a woman on Facebook and struck up a friendship with his victim. The two spoke via text messages, never via phone calls because Mlaba said his cellphone speaker was faulty. After chatting online for a while, the victim told him she was experiencing financial problems.
